HUNGER GAMES: {Exclusive: Never Before Seen Footage} + Katniss Everdeen Makeup Tutorial

Hello Fellow Tributes..hehehe! So I'm gonna jump right in here...Not sure if you knew this but I was actually cast to be in the new Hunger Games movie. [Insert uncontrollable laughter] Unfortunately, after shooting, the producers had a little sit down with me and said, "Ya know Alaina, we just aren't sure you 'get' what this movie is about...its about fighting to the death, not running around giving everyone makeovers..." Then I was like, "Yo.Yo.Yo. That's just what I do"....Then they made me leave..hahaha
Needless to say they cut me from the movie, but luckily for YOU, I was able to retrieve some valuable footage.
Please enjoy as I make a mad dash for the one weapon that can ensure my survival.....

Right now you are thinking...'If this was a book, I wouldn't be able to put it down'

No one will ever get between me and my kit! (side note: I grass stained my pants right here...it was liberating)

YES!! All those fools that went for knives and flame throwers are in BIG TROUBLE!

Killing Em With Fineness!!!!!

Hold Your Applause Till The End Folks! We still have a super awesome makeup tutorial to get through...its about to get real serious!

Don't we just love Katniss Everdeen's natural radiance and beauty? Isn't it just amazing that she looks so fantastic without makeup?....Well...And you might want to sit down for this...That girl is COVERED in makeup! Yes it is an illusion my friends, but today you shall learn the wizardry that is the "No-Makeup, Makeup".....Ladies & Gentlemen, I give you Katniss Everdeen, The Girl On Fire!!!

1) Moisturize your face, neck, and chest
2) Choose a light weight, radiant finish liquid base that matches your complexion. I recommend a tinted moisturizer, or a BB cream. You want your skin to shine through...especially any cute little freckles. Cover your entire face lightly.
3) Choose another foundation or a concealer in a slightly lighter shade. This needs to be lighter than your skin tone. Use a concealer brush to apply under your eyes, across your brow bone (under you eyebrow), and lightly down both sides of your nose and across the tops of your cheeks. This is a contouring technique that will open up your face and accentuate your cheek and brow bones. Blend. blend. blend
4) Dust a very light vale of powder to set. Make sure to use a loose brush not a sponge.
5) Dust bronzer across your forehead and on the lower half of your face (bottom of cheek bone and below). Avoid areas you applied the concealer.

6) Choose a very neutral blush. Any blush will work as long as it is similar to what is pictured above. Apply the blush on your cheek bones, use the center of your eye as a starting point and move out toward your ear.
7) Choose a light brown eyeliner and carefully apply a line on top in your lash line. Use your finger to soften the line. Do the same on bottom. Be sure to stop the line where the lashes end, which is usually the center of the iris. Only draw your line in the lashes. You are creating an illusion that lengthens and thickens your lashes, but you do not want an apparent line.
8) Put a very light coat of mascara on top lashes (now is not the time to go all Snookie)
9) Choose a matte finish lipstick similar in shade to your blush. I highly recommend Estee Lauder's Double Wear Stay Blush. It is stunning, and as close as it gets to the shade Katniss is wearing.
10) Don't forget to fill in you brows. This brings everything together :)
TADA!!!

What do you think? I absolutely love this look. In reality it is perfect for the Spring and Summer, it feels amazing, and it is super quick and easy to do.

And Finally, I am going to hit ya with a little bit of cuteness....My Dear Friend's baby, Sweet Little Autumn Rose:) Awww I'm obsessed!

So tell me what you think and feel free to ask questions! And if you like what you see, please go on and share this blog with your friends..I would absolutely LOVE IT! :)

Malory and Spilled Iced Green Tea...Everywhere!

Last thursday morning I had a wonderful face-to-face meet up with my darling, June 16th bride, Malory. We met at Starbucks and I arrived early so I could get a bite to eat. In typical Alaina fashion, I knocked over my venti, iced green tea before I even got a sip. All of my pictures and contracts were soaking wet and stained a nice greenish brown hue....YA..That's the first impression I was looking for...NOT! haahaa! Anyway...Moving on to the good stuff...
I was so happy that I got to meet her fiance and her mom too! We chatted about her personal style, she showed me a picture of her gorgeous gown, we discussed her wedding day hairstyles (yes "styles" with an 's' as in more than one...I love it!), and shared ideas for her AHHMAZING, BEST DAY OF HER LIFE, MAKEUP!
Her wedding colors are turquoise and lime. She is getting married on the beach, and having her reception outside at a gorgeous beach front home (I've done a wedding there before...ITS FAB). Malory has stunning, big green eyes and we all agreed that we need to play them up for her big day. So I thought I would share some of our ideas with you guys because it is super exciting and fun!

I am going to stick to browns, mochas, and pops of purples to pull out the green in her eyes. Purple will also coordinate with the colors of her wedding, rounding out the jewel tone theme. I want her eyes to be sultry and sexy (momma does too..hehe), but her overall look to be natural. In order to do that I am going to keep her lips nude and glossy, and apply a lighter eyeliner underneath her eye. This will pull out the green with out diminishing the size of her big, beautiful eyes.

So what do you guys think?? Do you love?...Can you just not wait until I post pictures in June?

Love you like I love my super sparkly lipgloss,
Alaina XOXO

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD CAN I JUST GET SOME MAKEUP THAT LOOKS GOOD ON ME!!??

Heyo Friends! Tonight I had a bit of wine with my girls which makes this blog super fun! Ok, so you guys have been telling me the same thing over and over again..."HOW DO I FIND A FOUNDATION THAT MATCHES?" Well my dearies, Auntie Laina's is here to help. There are a couple things to consider while you hunt down that perfect shade. They are as follows:

1) The most obvious: Intensity~ We change shades as the seasons change. Pay attention to that. You may change shades up to 4 times per year depending on your skin type and thats ok! Use bronzer as your special friend to help you transition :)

2) Commonly overlooked: Undertone~ There are three distinct undertones----> Cool (Pink), Neutral (Peachy), Warm (Yellow). It is so important that you determine your undertone. You can usually tell by just looking in the mirror, but if you are unsure go to a professional and ask. Cosmetic counters in department stores do this for free and typically provide samples for you to try. I encourage you to take advantage of this if you can. If not look for the words "cool", "warm", or "beige" as you browse the cosmetic aisles at your drug store. This is usually an indicator of undertone.

3) Texture of the makeup: If you purchase a thicker makeup, you may find the color is a bit more finicky. Make sure you are using a moisturizer that allows you to blend properly. Moisturizers can change your world. It primes your face and helps your makeup go on smoother. If you are not using a moisturizer START NOW!

And finally my little, special tip. Remember that you are covering your face with foundation, so you are actually matching your makeup to your body...HUH!!??! What!!?? YES!!!....Drink it in...yes...your body! Why do you have that horrible line of makeup on your jawline? Because your neck is whiter than your body because your chin blocks your neck from the sun! You want your neck and face to be lighter because that means you are protecting your precious skin. However, once you put your makeup on you want to create the illusion that your face and neck are, in fact, the same shade as your body! So, pay attention to that as you search for your perfect shade :) Once again...Bronze works wonders for bridging that gap!

One thing I learned tonight is sometimes we need to clean out our closets! We need to throw out our old ways and accept new ideas. This applies to makeup too. Maybe what you have been using just isn't right for you any more. Try something new! Take time for yourself and play dress up...It feels just as good as an adult!

I have been holding on to a dress I wore in high school, 12 years ago, because I thought one day I could rock it again! HAHAHA! What the "H" "E" "Double Hockey Sticks" was I thinking!? My girls made me try it on and said, "Honey its time to let it go!" And tonight thats what I am saying to you! Go out and grab a new foundation....maybe a tinted moisturizer, a BB cream, or a mineral powder...You never know what treasures you might discover :)

THE INFAMOUS DRESS: (You're Welcome)

Ahhhhh......so funny I forgot to laugh!

Listen guys, I really want to help you with the "foundation" issue, so please ask me questions! Let me know if these tips helped you :) XOXO

Love you more than my bazillion blushes,
Alaina

Allow Myself To Introduce.....Myself?

(A line from one of my favorite movies..might be awkward for me if you don't know it)

Hey Ya'll!!

So, I have been pondering the idea of a blog for some time now and figured I could do it one of two ways. I could be super serious like some of the other makeup bloggers, and discuss how wonderful and smooth such and such's foundation feels, or list all the ingredients in my favorite moisturizer (which I still might do..hehe) ~Or~ I could just be ME! Which is a little bit coo-coo-ca-choo! And I think you know what I mean by coo-coo-ca-choo. Don't play. Some of you are laughing because you know me
Moving on... At a young age I was absolutely obsessed with makeup, but like any good mother should do, mine set a strict 'no makeup until you are 13' policy! The wait for 13 was filled with many attempts to dupe my friend's parents into letting me wear just a little gloss and mascara...Harmless, I say! I would assure them that I was, in fact, allowed to wear makeup at home and that it was perfectly acceptable for me to rummage through their makeup bag. Of course, my mother sniffed it out every time and soon all the parents were on to my game. So, once again...13 it was! Until then, I studied every face like Sherlock on a case, and I knew exactly what I was going to do when it was my turn behind the brush!
To make matters worse, at 15 my mom started working at a makeup counter in the local department store. I may or may not have become an 'after school makeup counter stalker'...I'm not sure, much of that time was like a dream. Anyhow, she would go on to move up through the ranks with Estee Lauder, and I followed her all the way just like a baby duck. The only difference being, she is a selling wizard and I have always been obsessed with paintin' them faces! Luckily, Lauder had a place for both of us. She is now an account executive with over 20 stores covering the northern half of Florida and I am a free-lance artist with the company (and always will be). My position with Estee Lauder has allowed me to learn from the absolute best in the business, travel to 7 different states, and meet the most amazing women. Warning: Serious Emotional Moment --> Throughout my journey, I have held grieving women as they mourn the loss of a loved one, listened to incredible stories about how they beat cancer, discussed the keys to lasting marriages as I beautified them for a 20th anniversary dinner, and the list goes on. The one common thread is that they turned to me to make them feel beautiful, but what I learned is that I could do that before I ever showed them a mirror. That is why this is my passion. That is why I believe so strongly in the benefits of having someone touch your face and make you feel pretty. Getting a "makeover" should go way beyond the skin! My hope is that I can make m'ladies feel great before I ever hand them a mirror. The makeup should just be the cherry on top.

The Purpose Of My Blog

I want this blog to be fun and interactive. I want to answer any and all of your concerns and questions about makeup, provide helpful tips, and discuss my favorite things! I also fully intend on completely goofing off! Expect to see adorable pictures of my dogs, blogs about my crazy adventures, random rants about stuff I find completely crazy, and maybe some personal stuff too. This is a fun extension of my business and a chance to be completely free with who I am and what I think. When people hire me for makeup, they are hiring me...all of me! And I ain't gonna lie, I HOPE YOU LIKE ME!!!!! Seriously, I have a problem with hoping everyone likes me...perhaps I will blog about that too! HAHA!  But, Don't Panic! IT will mostly be about makeup!

This is a little something I like to call 'Making it work on a rainy day'~or~'Horse teeth' You decide...

And Finally..... (Good Lawd This Blog Is Long)

I just want to quickly tell you a little bit about me (beyond the makeup) in super speed motion.....I am married, no kids, two dogs, great husband, the best husband, he is in the Air Force, we move around a lot, kinda sucks, kinda cool, Florida is our fave, I am also a health care admin student, I know its a weird combo, I like to run a lot, sometimes far, sometimes just long enough to not feel like crap about myself, I kill every plant I try to grow (except for this unstoppable ivy stuff), I think bugs and lizards are cute, I am obsessed with time travel, I have broken nearly every glass my husband owned when he married me, there is nothing you can tell me that I won't understand, because I have been around the block, not in the nasty way, gosh guys! Finally, I love everyone...used to think it was too much, but now I know its the perfect amount :)

Give me your thoughts and tell me what you want to talk about.....PLEASE??

Love you like I love my makeup brushes XOXO~
